General English Courses
LLA offers General English courses throughout the year. We offer 20 hours per week . The classes run from Monday to Friday.
A total of 240 hours of input is given during a level. Two third of the course includes the textbook and one third of the course is for supplementary activities for students to have more practice. The supplementary activities are done on four skills as well as grammar. Students are asked to take an 'end-of-unit' test at the end of each unit which helps both the teachers and the students to evaluate themselves. Moreover at the end of the whole level there is another 'end-of-level' test which covers the whole subjects taught within the level. The teachers also grade their students about their participation in classes every week. At the end of the level all these results are calculated and if the students score less than 70 % at the end of the level, they are advised to repeat the same course. Below is the detailed table for this calculation.
What are the levels and what do they include? We offer Beginner, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate and Advanced level classes. We also have IELTS preparation classes where we can accept students who has finished at least the Upper-Intermediate level.
Beginner The Beginner level is for absolute beginners, which is designed for students who do not have any information about the language. In Beginner level the students are taught the basics of the language, they are even taught the alphabet but this is only for one lesson. However, we do not provide handwriting classes for students who use a diiferent alphabet than Latin. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help. Elementary This course is for students who have some information about English language but on the other hand who is just starting the course. The course is the equivalent of A2 in CEF. Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
