What is 'Academic English'?
Academic English is basically the English you need at university. But it is more than just language. Academic English helps you to better understand the reading, the lectures and the expectations you will have at university.
Isn't it the same as IELTS?
No, it isn't. IELTS preparation is useful for university, but an IELTS course will not help you to understand the essay questions you will have, or what your tutor will expect from you.
What level of English do I need for Academic English?
You should join Academic English at B2 level ideally, so you have a good enough level to be able to communicate accurately.
What will I study in Academic English?
Everything that you would on a pre-sessional course, or during a university course. We want to prepare you for what will happen at university as best as we can.
Do I need to start Academic English before I start university in the UK?
No, but it will help you to succeed more easily and settle in quicker because you will know what to expect. University in the UK might be very different to university in your country, and Academic English will help you to understand. However, if you study Academic English during your course, it can help you to perform better in the presentations, and get better marks on the real essays you are doing.
